How FlyGRAK Ghost Hub works
FlyGRAK lets MSFS 2024 challenge pilots share ghost files, explore routes in 3D, compare different racing lines and download other players’ runs.
Anyone can use the website to browse leaderboards and explore available routes. Uploading a ghost or using a downloaded ghost in MSFS currently requires the PC version of the simulator, as these features rely on access to the local ‘Ghosts’ folder.
This page explains how to explore routes on the 3D map, where to find your own ghost files, how to back them up, how to fly against someone else’s ghost and how to upload your own run.
Before replacing any files, always make a backup of your original Ghosts folder so you can restore your own personal bests later.
Where to find your ghost files
This is currently a PC-only workaround, as it relies on access to the local MSFS 2024 'Ghosts' folder.
You can usually find your MSFS 2024 challenge ghost folder in one of the following locations, depending on how you installed the sim (the 'AppData' folder may be hidden):
Steam version:
C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\Ghosts
MS Store version:
C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\Ghosts
Before changing anything, it’s a good idea to back up this whole folder so you can restore your original ghosts later.
Inside the 'Ghosts' folder, you’ll find individual folders for each challenge. For example, the Low Altitude Pyrenees challenge folder may be named:
la_s1_pyrenees.flt
MSFS 2024 only creates a challenge folder after you have completed that challenge at least once.
What each challenge folder contains
Each challenge folder normally contains two ghost files:
Main ghost:
MainGhost.ReplayDesc
This is the ghost MSFS 2024 loads for you to race against. It will normally be your personal-best ghost, but it may instead be another player’s ghost that you have downloaded and copied into the folder.
MSFS will not replace this file unless your new run beats the score or time of the ghost currently stored there.
Most recent completed run:
MainGhost_Last.ReplayDesc
This file contains your most recently completed run and may be overwritten when you complete another attempt.
Don’t lose a new personal best: If you set a new personal best while racing against a faster downloaded ghost, your new run may exist only as MainGhost_Last.ReplayDesc. Copy it somewhere safe or upload it to FlyGRAK before flying the challenge again, so it is preserved and can be shared with the community.
How to use someone else’s ghost
- Select a race from the dropdown, then download a ghost from that leaderboard.
- Back up your own existing ghost files!
- Open the downloaded ZIP folder and drag the file into the correct MSFS challenge 'Ghost' folder.
- Open the challenge in MSFS 2024 and fly against that ghost.
How uploading works
-
Go to the correct MSFS challenge 'Ghost' folder and find the run you want to upload. This will usually be:
If you have just set a new personal best while racing against a faster downloaded ghost, your run may instead be stored as:MainGhost.ReplayDesc
Copy or upload it before completing another attempt, as the file may be overwritten.MainGhost_Last.ReplayDesc -
Upload the file to this site with your username and email address. No password is needed.
- If this browser has already been securely authorised for your uploader account, a valid ghost should appear straight away.
- On a new browser, or after the authorisation expires, you’ll receive a secure email link to confirm the upload.
- After confirmation, that browser is authorised for future uploads for 90 days.
- Where possible, the site automatically reads the challenge name, score and time from the file.
- Users can flag any tactics, or these can be updated later from the Manage my Ghosts section.
- Checks are in place to help verify file integrity. Some uploads may be flagged for manual review.
- Once verified, your upload will appear on the leaderboard.
Important notes
FlyGRAK is an unofficial community project built to help players share, explore and compare MSFS 2024 challenge ghost runs.
Automated checks and moderation is in place to help verify uploads, but because this relies on a community workaround, there is no guarantee that files will work correctly, match the displayed score or time, or continue working after future MSFS 2024 updates.
Always back up your original ghost files before replacing anything. The safest option is to copy your entire 'Ghosts' folder and keep it somewhere safe.
Use downloaded ghost files at your own risk. If a file looks wrong, does not work, or appears to be linked to the wrong challenge, please use the 'Report' button.
